My work with drapery did not begin with drapery. It started in homes where the air itself was a medical concern. In these homes, nothing was left to chance. Every protocol was exact. Every condition was monitored.
Except the drapery.
Left unmaintained, it collected airborne particles and allergens and released them back into the room with every movement. It was the one element working against the home. Everything else in the home had a specialist who could come in and maintain it to that standard.
For the drapery, I could not find one. So I developed methods of my own, refining each one with the same discipline the home demanded. Somewhere in that work, the drapery stopped being a problem to solve. It became the part of the room I could not stop studying.
I learned how each layer behaves, from the weave and fiber of the face fabric to the lining behind it. I saw how a damask, woven thread by thread over countless hours, can begin to unravel under a single wrong touch. I watched one drop of water leave a tide line across silk. Each fabric demanded its own method, and a wrong guess could not be undone.
The deeper I went, the more I wanted formal grounding. I studied Textile Conservation, and one principle from that discipline now guides all of my work. Observe first. Intervene only when you understand.
The Drapery Spa is the service I could not find. Every textile is honored for what it is. Every intervention is precise, restrained and considered. Never approximated.
No treatment is selected by category alone. Before any work begins, we consider the textile as a whole. Its fiber, dyes, construction, lining, finish and condition.
Our work spans preventive conservation, remedial conservation and restoration. From accumulated soil and environmental exposure to deterioration, localized damage and textiles requiring extensive intervention
The objective is never a visible change alone. It is to understand what can be safely achieved, determine the right level of intervention and protect the qualities that give the textile its structure, character and intended presentation.
The Drapery Spa® is devoted to the continued care of drapery and fine interior textiles, from bespoke window treatments to upholstered seating and select soft furnishings.
Our work encompasses preventive care, treatment and restoration within designer-led residences, private estates, boutique hospitality properties and private clubs across Dallas-Fort Worth and Southern California.
